Ingredients
- 500 grams ripe bananas
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 tablespoons fine sugar
- A pinch of salt
- Sunflower oil
*This was a dish that I used to eat as a kid. There was a Malay lady who used to sell this in the area that I grew up in and almost everyday, I'd buy jemput jemput from her.
The urban myth back then (as circulated by the kids - us) was that the lady used...erm...phlegm in her jemput jemputs - that's why it tasted so good! :P
I didn't care. I just wanted to eat it everyday! :)
Sadly I am unable to find this dish as easily as before. So I am resorting to making it on my own!
- Mash the bananas but not too finely. You'd still want to see bits and pieces of bananas inside the fritters.
- Mix the bananas, flour, baking powder, fine sugar & salt into a bowl.
- Stir until all the ingredients have been mixed thoroughly.
- Heat sunflower oil in saucepan/wok.
- Using a spoon, scoop large spoonfuls of batter into oil.
- Fry till golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Enjoy!

I love jemput jemput!!! I thought they also used coconut in it? not sure.. but the place I used to buy it from seemed to have grated coconut in it.. mmm jemput jemput.. *drooll*
